Health and Safety

A detailed Risk Assessment of both waterborne activities and land-based activities has been undertaken by The Rotary Club of South Queensferry with the support of Edinburgh Watersports, who seek to identify all potential risks, and put in place appropriate actions to remove, mitigate and / or manage these risks.

Edinburgh Watersports will provide a qualified First Aider to deal with any waterborne incidents. They willl also supply and inspect the race craft (5 x 14ft mega SUPs), paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets. They will provide a safety boat manned by qualified staff to supervise the race and deal with any emergencies.

RCSQ will provide a fully qualified First Aider to deal with all accidents, injuries or medical incidents other than those related to water-borne activities.

At least one Fire Extinguisher will be available on site at the Rotary Welcome / Information area.

The Rotary Safety Officer will undertake a full safety check of all temporary constructions including  stalls and gazebos by 09.45am on the morning of the event. They will highlight and have remedied any potential risk issues e.g. trip hazards from gazebo guy ropes. Rotary Stewards will also be deployed to enhance safety.

Participants also have a responsibility for their own safety, so we advise them as follows:

You will  be entering a harbour environment that you may be unfamiliar with so please keep alert at all times to any potential risks to yourselves or those around you.
