Rules of the Race
RULES FOR RAFTERS
1.1 Teams will consist of eight rafters.
1.2 All rafters must complete an online Rafter Registration form to show their acceptance of race entry conditions.
1.3 One Rafter in each team must be designated Team Captain.
1.4 The Team Captain will be responsible for:
(a) purchasing a team ticket (see the “How to Enter” page)
(b) building the team – ie. inviting rafters to join their team
(c) ensuring Team members check in on time
(d) ensuring sensible behaviour within the team
(e) liaison with Race Control (via the Check-in Office).
1.5 The minimum age of rafters is 14 years on the day of the race. There is no maximum age.
1.6 Rafters under 18 years of age must obtain a parent or guardian’s consent to enter the race indicated by entries on the online Rafter Registration Form.
1.7 Rafters will comply with safety rules (see adjacent SAFETY RULES panel).
1.8 Teams which field fewer than six rafters at check-in on the day will not be permitted to take part in the race.
SAFETY RULES
2.1 Buoyancy aids provided must be wornby all participants, and helmets must be worn by those under 16 years of age.
2.2 Alcohol is not permitted to be carried on rafts. Alcohol should not be consumed prior to participation in the event. Anyone judged to be intoxicated by Edinburgh Watersports staff or the Rotary Event Safety Officer will be forbidden from taking part.
2.3 Sabotage or direct interference with other rafts is prohibited. However loud, friendly rivalry between teams is welcomed. (but remember this is a family event!)
2.4 Rafters or teams who get into difficulty should remain on or with the raft and signal for assistance by raising an arm upwards and await assistance from the safety boat.
2.5 Team Captains should report to Check-in as soon as possible after completing the course or retiring from the event.
2.6 The waterborne events will be supervised by Edinburgh Watersports, and Rafters must obey their instructions at all times..
2.7 Participants must behave responsibly while on the water.
